Outdoor Fun

This morning we went for a little hike on a one mile loop trail down the road from our place. Jonah got to see his first deer, but was soon bounced off to sleep in the carrier. (And it wasn’t even naptime yet!)

He woke up back at the car and was delighted to look around and find that right in his view was…

… a SCHOOL BUS!!!

Then he played with some rocks in the parking area for a few whole minutes before even trying to put them in his mouth.

Since he took a little nap on the hike, we knew we’d have to tire him out all over again for his real nap, so we went up to the drillfield at Virginia Tech. It is a great place for him to roam – level ground, nice cushy grass, and almost nothing he can run into and hit his head on. He can really cover a lot of ground!

Ooohhh… wiggly shadow fingers!

Richmond

Sean had a conference in Richmond, so we all decided to make the trip with him for a change of scenery. I’m glad we did because Jonah had a blast! From the minute we walked into the hotel, he was excitedly pointing at everything in sight and was thrilled to find that our room had a “BOOK-K-K”!

The hallways were great for running – plenty of room to weave, and pretty plush for the tumbles.

We got to go swimming both days, which was great since it was in the 90s. Jonah enjoyed chasing after some of his new squirt toys and bobbing up and down in the water.

There was a pretty courtyard in the middle of the hotel buildings with trees and brick pathways that Jonah spent nearly the whole afternoon running around on. (Somewhere along the way, he took a spill. You may notice yet another head wound. It wasn’t too bad, though.)

A short water break to watch the garbage truck and landscaping truck…

…and back to running!

He covered so much ground – walked WAY farther than he ever has before – and eventually just wore himself out.

Then we met up with Sean and grabbed a quick dinner before heading home. Again, Jonah is just so interested in all the new things he sees and is giving his pointer finger a workout wherever he goes!

Father’s Day Jog

Sean was given a jogging stroller by a friend whose daughters have outgrown it, so today he took Jonah out for his first run. (I followed along at my own leisurely pace, and met them on their way back.) Apparently, it’s a smooth ride – Jonah didn’t stay awake for long. :)

The Cascades

There’s a great hike near us that goes two miles up (and up and up) to a waterfall – the Cascades – and then two miles back down. We’ve taken Jonah on this hike for the past two beautiful weekends, and it’s been a great time. He loves looking at the stream on the way up and is full of laughs and stories from his carrier. It’s been pretty good exercise for the parents, too.

Here’s the little hiker looking at the fascinating stream.

Time to Sleep

So Jonah now occasionally falls to sleep on his own when he is put in his crib, usually after several minutes of happy chatting with his hands and sometimes followed by a couple of pitiful whimpers as he drifts off. I needed to wake him up yesterday afternoon, so I thought I’d first get a picture of one of his funny sleep positions.

Then he woke up!
