Some weekend hikes

Last Saturday, Nora and I hiked up Spencer’s Butte here in town, close to our house. She did a great job at the all uphill one mile hike, too.

The next day, Jonah and I hiked up Mt. Pisgah, a 1.5 mile hike with a 1000 foot elevation gain. He also did well and enjoyed snacks and some silly photos once we arrived at the top.

More Sunny Days

We have had some beautiful days this week – pretty much perfect. And if the forecast can be believed (which it generally can’t…), we may be in for another week or so like this. Hooray!! The kids have been spending a lot of time outside. Nora has figured out how to get into her blue swing and buckled in all by herself, but she also likes being a big kid on the regular swings. Here are the two little Phillies, taking a break from ball games and bike rides.

She gets brave with the really big swings at the park, too, asking for higher and higher pushes.

We went to our favorite river park on Monday and stayed for the whole time Jonah was at school. What fun!

Her new favorite “take a picture of THIS face!”

That night, we broke out the ice cream maker for the first time in a long time and made some peach-blueberry frozen yogurt. The kids loved the treat, and Nora said it was “sooooo cold, just like Uranus.” She’s learning a lot about planets from her big brother.

Here are a few cute ones I took while playing around with a new photo app.

We also took advantage of the clear night to go to a hilltop in town to watch the ‘supermoon’. Although it’s not a great picture, it reminds me how excited Jonah was about the whole thing.

I made Nora a new dress out of an old maternity shirt. I made sure it would have a pocket for her rocks.

Then today, the kids played with water for most of the afternoon. We just filled up a plastic tub and had some cups and the hose, and that kept them happy (especially Jonah!) for a very long time. He loved throwing cups of water like a pitcher, but the water would fly out and get all over his back every time. So funny.

Nora got in on some of the pouring fun.

Jonah kept cracking himself up jumping and then sitting in the very cold water. Funny guy!

Water Park

Guess what just opened up six blocks away from our house? A new spray play area at one of the town parks! :) It’s the kind that has all sorts of fountains and sprinklers shooting up out of the concrete for kids to run through and splash in. Today we packed up our lunches and walked over to check it out for the first time.

Nora loved it right away and was sticking her hands in and cracking up when it splashed her in the face.

Jonah walked around and watched for a while, but did not want to enter the water zone. So we went and ate our lunch. After we ate, he got brave enough to start sticking his fingers down where the water comes out, and he and Nora had fun with that for a little while.

Then a little braver…

Then, the next thing I knew, he was sticking his FACE in the fountain. This is the boy who hates any splash of water hitting his face in the bathtub, voluntarily and repeatedly putting his face in these sprayers. Too funny!

Can you tell he was having a good time?

I’m pretty sure this will be a frequent destination for the rest of the summer. :)

Sprinkler Time

Our first bathing suit day! We tried out the sprinkler after lunch today, and the kids were pretty excited. Jonah liked the idea of the sprinkler more than the actual water hitting him, but Nora was pretty happy to stand in the spray the whole time, waving and clapping her hands.

Jonah wanted to “help get Nora’s belly wet.”

Proud (and wet)

Today it was sunny and warm. All day. And it is Nora’s half-birthday. Many reasons to go out for ice cream. So we did.
