Last day of the school year!

Jonah and Nora finished up their year at school today with a concert and pot-luck at a local park. It was good fun and they had a great year at school!

Singing, Reading, and Playing

If this kid gets much cuter, I’m not sure how I’ll handle it.

All of a sudden, she’s started reciting all sorts of whole new songs, rhymes, and books, and I just can’t get enough of them.  She’s even started ‘reading’ me her bedtime stories.  :)   Here are a handful of the little things she does. Enjoy!

Nora Songs

Along with Nora’s talking really taking off, she’s also started singing songs. For a while now, she’s enjoyed filling in the last word of a line when we sing to her, but in the past week or two she’s started singing whole songs by herself, mainly ones from library story time (which she LOVES). I’ve been trying to record her two favorites for a few days now. The first one is ‘Down by the Station’ – she’s looking at the book version. Here are the words, so you can understand/follow along:

Down by the station, early in the morning
See the little pufferbellies all in a row.
See the engine driver pull his little lever
Puff puff toot toot, off we go!

And the second song she learned from storytime is ‘Gray Squirrel’. It goes:

Gray squirrel, gray squirrel, swish your bushy tail.
Gray squirrel, gray squirrel, swish your bushy tail.
Wrinkle up your little nose
Hold an acorn in your toes.

After we got home from library, I was wondering if she remembered the new song, so I was letting her finish the last word of each line, and when I said ‘Hold an acorn in your…’ Nora said, ‘Pocket!’ and cracked up. Jonah also thought it was hilarious, so now it’s her big joke song. She also likes changing the color of the squirrel, or singing, ‘Jonah, Jonah, swish your bushy tail.’ (Although it actually sounds like ‘Jonah, Jonah, fishy fishy tail.’ And my favorite part of this video has got to be Nora’s distraction with her toes while she sings the squirrel song at the end. She is too funny!

Caboose Singers

Jonah learned a song called ‘Little Red Caboose’ at preschool, and as you might guess, it’s been quite popular around here. And as with most things, if Jonah likes it, then Nora likes it, too! She’s listened to it so many times that she started singing along, filling in the words she can say, which in this case is “back back back.” She also does a little train whistle sound at the end, just like Jonah used to. :) (Oh, and I have no idea why Nora’s so solemn during this singing. She’s usually smiley and bouncing up and down whenever Jonah sings, but hey, I got them both to do something at the same time when I asked, so that’s what you get. ;) )

Lyrics: Little red caboose, chug chug chug
Little red caboose behind the train train train
Rolling down the track track track
Smokestack on its back back back
Little red caboose behind the train train train – woo woooo
