Last Monday, we were eating breakfast when we heard some loud truck noises outside. It was a dump truck and backhoe all ready to replace the sidewalk corners right outside our house! We spent the better part of the morning out front watching all the activity.
First, though, we checked things out through Jonah’s bedroom window as we got dressed.
Then we headed out for a closer look. (It reminded me of watching the cement trucks at our old house.)
Jonah wanted to bring ‘Gary’ (the red dump truck driver from back in Blacksburg) out because “you think he would really want to see the real dump truck!”
Nora also enjoyed the scene. She’s been a bit indoctrinated with the truck excitement in the household.
That night while Nora had a bath, Jonah decided to draw what he saw that day. In the middle is a backhoe (and a happy driver) with the scoops on either end digging up the chunks of sidewalk. There is a sun in the sky – the first time he’s ever drawn a sun – and a bunch of rain clouds, because that’s the kind of day it was. I love when he just starts doing things like this on his own.
Jonah, you know how to dress for the occasion– putting your construction supervising skills to use (looks like you may have a little helper,too) :)
What excitement!! Did the construction guys like your red truck? You looked like you and your truck were already to help out. We liked your picture.

Sara, Benita and I both aqree, the picture of Johan standing so straight, looking so intent at the construction activities, hands held behind his back, is very much a reflection of his dad at that age! This picture and the one of Nora standing next to the doll house have replaced others which used to be at the number one “fridge” location!!
