Jonah had his first two full mornings of preschool this week. The first day was a little overwhelming for him – the teacher said he was very very quiet and mostly just watched what was going on. But by the second day, he joined right in playing on the carpet when I dropped him off and was singing along with some songs when I showed up to get him before lunch. He’s full of stories about what he did as we walk home, but once we get home, he doesn’t want to talk about it anymore, so I have to get as much out of him as I can while we walk. ;)
Here’s our big preschool boy, ready for his first day on his own.
Here’s the name tag he made for his backpack.
After dinner, Jonah is always excited to play baseball with Dad, and this night he wanted to help get the dishes done, so that they could play sooner. It probably actually took longer with Jonah’s help, but he thought “washing dishes is pretty cool!”
In addition to playing real baseball, Jonah has also started to love making his little guys play baseball, too. So my project this week has been making a felt ball field for him. He gets so excited when he wakes up from a nap or in the morning and finds some new little pieces or details that he’s requested.
We made the bleachers and concession stand together yesterday. Jonah mixed up some green paint and painted the cardboard tubes for the bleachers while I glued the benches together. Then he made a FOOD sign so the fans would know where to get their snacks.
We took a trip to the hardware store to get these little wooden pegs to turn into the Phillies and the Mariners. He likes to move them around to all different positions and make them hit foul balls into the stands.
And this morning, he wanted to read a book to Nora(!) “But just a book that doesn’t have paper pages because then she will just want to rip them and eat them.”
Hey Jonah. It looks like you had a good first week at preschool. We are very proud of you. And we think your baseball field is simply fanastic. We think you have the cleverest mother in the whole wide world. As for the page ripping and paper eating sister, try reading one of the hard page books—, maybe the one about red and blue pots!!
Give our love to Mother, Dad and Nora, and take some for yourself!!
When Jonah gets more efficient at the dish-washing thing, I’d love to have him visit.
Oh, and the ball field is awesome. :)
Jonah can help me do dishes ANYTIME! :) The school pic is sooo cute and the baseball field is absolutely incredible! Your mom is the greatest! (and so’s your Dad) So nice of you to read to Nora– you know just the right books to pick. Bunches of love to you all. :)
