Happy Birthday, Nora!!

You’re ONE YEAR OLD! :)

img_7788.JPG

Nora got to have her birthday stretched over two days. Since Sean worked on Friday, we decided to do most of the celebrating on Saturday. She did open a few presents on Friday evening, though. Jonah was very excited for her to open the gift he chose for her – Thomas the Tank Engine bath squirters – “because Nora really likes Thomas AND she really likes baths.”  (But really, he’s spent far more time playing with them than she has… haha…)

img_7747.JPG

He was also eager to jump in at any pause in the action to help Nora find a place to start ripping into her gift again.

img_7749.JPG

Here he is supervising another opening, just looking for any opportunity to ‘help.’ ;)

img_7825.JPG

Nora didn’t need a lot of help, though. She definitely got the hang of present-opening very quickly. We think she’ll be pretty thrilled to find that she gets to do it again in just a few weeks.

Then today it was cold, but not raining, so we took Nora to the park, knowing she’d love some outside time. She insisted on the swings first, but then went over to see some stairs and slides. The slides were wet, and she liked dragging her fingers through the little puddles.

img_7770.JPG

She’s really getting to be quite the little climber!

Off again, not caring that the playground is bumpy, wet, and freezing.

After naptime, Nora got her first taste of cupcake. Here she is, eyeing up the treat.

img_7791.JPG

Jonah helped her blow out the candle and then she started right in on the cake. She didn’t mind getting her hands a little messy, but once she discovered the frosting, that was pretty much the only part she went for. I think it was easier for her to grab that than to pull off little pieces of cake, but she liked both.

And since one of her joys in life is seeing balloons in the grocery stores, Nora was super excited about the bunch in our living room this afternoon.

Three Years Old!

Wow! Jonah is 3!

img_6490.JPG

We had a nice family day for Jonah’s birthday this year. Since Nora’s been so sick all week, we stayed close to home, but had plenty of fun opening presents and playing outside. Jonah took his present-opening very seriously this year and only needed help with the occasional stubborn ribbon. He received many nice gifts and has a lot of fun new books and things to keep him busy for a long time. :)

Our sick little girl…

Before lunch, we walked to a nearby playground because Jonah really wanted to “go climb up the climbing wall lots of times!”

img_6434.JPG

img_6441.JPG

And, of course, the swings

img_6444.JPG

I made Jonah a firefighter dress-up outfit, since one of his favorite pretending games is to “put out fires with Dad.”

Nora got pretty interested in the wrappings and made Jonah nervous by trying to munch on some of his new things.

img_6483.JPG

“This present kind of looks like the shape of a golf club.”

img_6472.JPG

img_6475.JPG

He and Dad hit a lot of balls around in the backyard for a while after dinner. He’s going to be so ready for the mini golf course next time we go!

He also got some official bases to use for his baseball practice and was very excited to go out and put them in their right places.

img_6479.JPG

Nora got Jonah a basketball hoop for out back because she really likes to watch Jonah play ball. He gets very excited to score two points.

img_6410.JPG

And as requested, Jonah’s green garbage truck cake – “because last year you had a dump truck cake, so this time you don’t need another dump truck cake, you need a garbage truck cake. A green garbage truck cake!” I was pretty proud of my creation.

img_6406.JPG

And Jonah was quite pleased with it, too!

Jonah Turns Two!!

Happy birthday, Jonah!!

img_2302.JPG

Jonah got to have a whole birthday weekend of fun this year. We started with some presents on Friday, his actual birthday.

img_2294.JPG

Then Grandma and Grandpa showed up to visit for a few days. It was also the weekend of the art festival in town, so we spent a little time down there checking things out. Sean ran in a short race that evening, and we cheered him on.

img_7961.JPG

Jonah got to share some Italian ice, and enjoyed that a whole lot! (after he recovered from the shock of the first cold bite)

img_7966.JPG

img_7968.JPG

Down the street, the fire trucks and ambulances were on display. One of the fire trucks had its ladder all the way up, and Jonah was extremely excited about this. This is his ‘excited face.’ :)

img_7975.JPG

He kept saying, “That fire truck has a big ladder on top going way up in the skyyyyyy!”

img_7976.JPG

That night, Grandma helped make frosting, and I decorated Jonah’s dump truck cake.

img_2298.JPG

The next morning, he got to open some more presents. This one was really funny because he had ripped off a little piece of paper and said, “I know what this is!”

img_8007.JPG

And it was a truck. He’s pretty good at identifying trucks by only seeing the tiniest part of one.

img_8009.JPG

He has really enjoyed playing with pasta at his friend, Luke’s, house. I colored a little box of his own to play with and string up.

img_8063.JPG

Some new puppets to talk to and tickle and kiss…

img_8018.jpg

…and feed colored pasta to.

Garbage trucks on a shirt!!

img_8082.JPG

We also got Jonah a little fish tank – he always loves watching the fish at the pet store, and he was pretty excited to pick a fish to bring home.

img_8036.JPG

Time to release the new pet!

img_8054.JPG

“That fish is swimming around in there!”

img_8056.JPG

“Is he coming over to look at you?”

img_8059.JPG

Time to blow out the candle and eat some cake!! He gave the candle-blowing a try, and then said, “Do you just want Dad to blow it out?”

img_8102.JPG

“There is cake under my dump truck.”

img_8115.JPG

Yum. Cake on a forklift fork.

We’re looking forward to our third year with this great little guy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JONAH!!!

img_5037.JPG

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Jonah started off his birthday by sleeping in, ensuring that his parents would be significantly more rested than they were a year ago… He had breakfast and opened a couple of his presents.

img_4995.JPG

Then we headed out for Jonah’s favorite park. Unfortunately, it started raining as we walked out the door, so we took a detour to let him run around our tiny mall. We laughed about taking our baby to the mall for his birthday.

img_4997.JPG

But then the rain (mostly) stopped, so we did make it to the park after all. (Interestingly, the only other family there also had a boy celebrating his first birthday today!)

img_5004.JPG

img_5006.JPG

img_5010.JPG

The puddles on the slide were fun to splash in!

img_5016.JPG

After his nap, Jonah got to open his special present from his dad and mom – his very own ukulele! He LOVES it!!!

img_5021.JPG

img_5066.JPG

img_5025.JPG

Then it was time for cake. I made him a guitar cake, complete with Cheerio tuners. Jonah did not overlook this detail. :)

img_4985.JPG

img_5027.JPG

“Ooohhh… I want that Cheerio cake!”

img_5030.JPG

Now, let me remind you that this is a kid who eats literally EVERYthing that he’s ever been given (and some things he wasn’t): spinach, salmon, plain uncooked tofu, fruits, avocado, bread, lentils, mulch, dirt, dead bugs…

Cake and ice cream – not eating it. It’s apparently an acquired taste.

img_5032.JPG

img_5033.JPG

img_5035.JPG

img_5036.JPG

So, it was back to the presents. He liked reading his cards, or ‘books’, as he calls them. You will notice in many of these pictures that Jonah intensely searched out wheels at every opportunity.

Thanks to all who sent cards and packages, left comments, and made phone calls to help celebrate this little guy’s birthday. He knows he is loved by many!
