Wow! Jonah is 3!
We had a nice family day for Jonah’s birthday this year. Since Nora’s been so sick all week, we stayed close to home, but had plenty of fun opening presents and playing outside. Jonah took his present-opening very seriously this year and only needed help with the occasional stubborn ribbon. He received many nice gifts and has a lot of fun new books and things to keep him busy for a long time. :)
Our sick little girl…
Before lunch, we walked to a nearby playground because Jonah really wanted to “go climb up the climbing wall lots of times!”
And, of course, the swings
I made Jonah a firefighter dress-up outfit, since one of his favorite pretending games is to “put out fires with Dad.”
Checking himself out in the mirror
Off to put out fires
Back to opening presents as a firefighter
Nora got pretty interested in the wrappings and made Jonah nervous by trying to munch on some of his new things.
“This present kind of looks like the shape of a golf club.”
He and Dad hit a lot of balls around in the backyard for a while after dinner. He’s going to be so ready for the mini golf course next time we go!
He also got some official bases to use for his baseball practice and was very excited to go out and put them in their right places.
Nora got Jonah a basketball hoop for out back because she really likes to watch Jonah play ball. He gets very excited to score two points.
And as requested, Jonah’s green garbage truck cake – “because last year you had a dump truck cake, so this time you don’t need another dump truck cake, you need a garbage truck cake. A green garbage truck cake!” I was pretty proud of my creation.
And Jonah was quite pleased with it, too!
Happy birthday, Jonah!!!

This might be my favorite post ever, minus poor sick Nora. :( Happy birthday to Jonah, who looks like he had an amazing day! Love the fireman outfit.
Jonah, you sure had a terrific day doing all kinds of fun things. We love the fireman outfit and you are really ready now to get out there and put out fires! We are so glad you liked your garbage truck cake and all your great presents. Have lots of fun!! :)
The cake is impressive.
Happy Birthday Jonah!
Jonah, it was so good to talk to you on the phone on your birthday. You sounded to grown up and we could understand every word of your thank’s. It will be fun to be three years old. Give a hug to Nora and Mom and Dad. We love you big fellow.

What a wonderful birthday Jonah had and what an amazing cake your good mommy made. I’m more than impressed!
Riley loved to be a firefighter when he was Jonah’s age too. I think he was three when he dressed up as a firefighter for Halloween, but since it was 2001,he was not alone in wanting to be a firefighter that year. He had a cool truck to ride, but not such a cool fire extinguisher as Jonah has here.
We are glad to hear that Nora has recovered, but sorry to hear that you all had that scare. Love to you all.
Karen (your Aunt, not your cousin:)
I love your firefighter outfit, Jonah – your mom is so talented! I’m so glad you liked your sleeping bag — let me know when the next campout is!
Happy Birthday Jonah! What a lucky boy to share you day with your family and enjoy such an impressive cake! Looks like you had a great time! Give your mom a big hug, birthdays are bittersweet for moms. We hope Nora is doing well. Take care! :)
