Lab Rat Guinea Pig

Today Jonah participated in an infant research project at Virginia Tech. They were measuring his heart rate and brain waves while he was playing happily and when he was frustrated. It was hard to get him frustrated, though. Apparently he has good ‘self-soothing skills’ for a baby. :) He got to play with toys (including a crib toy that I remember from when we were little! It seems that Grandma isn’t the only one who saves these ‘vintage’ toys.) They also had puppets for him to watch as well as a short Sesame Street video that he, of course, loved. The researchers commented on how intently he studied everything that was going on. He’s a very curious little boy!

Sara, looks like you two had a good experience. Am sending CD of a lecture by a member of our faculty here at the UW regarding how babies Jonah’s age learn language and how it is manifested in the brain. So far, my impression in that Jonah is above average in most every way. The concentration and attention span you describe means he is a bright little guy. He should do well.

    Love,

    Grandad

    Hi Little Family,
Well, I expected this, but a little before I had anticipated. Oh my gosh, our little man is going to college. I was just amazed at what the little guy can do. It won’t be to long and he will be getting ready to wear a Virginia Tech sweater. How wonderful, that was a great test for him to go thru, with flying colors.
Give him a big kiss and hugs from us.
    We love you all,
    Nanny & Granpy

  4. Hey Jonah, your Aunt Guinea Pig participated in some research when she was little, too. They’ll be handing you a Nobel prize before you know it. Good job, smarty!

  5. THE BABY HATS!!!! Jonah, I could have warned you about this before you were even born. Anyway, hello to you all from across the pond! we’ll talk on the phone soon.
