In case you hadn’t heard, Nora had to go back in the hospital this week because she’s had a lot of diarrhea and had been losing weight. We’re not completely sure yet what the cause is, but it looks possible that she doesn’t have the ability to digest lactose, which means I can’t breastfeed her, and she needs a special (and very expensive) formula. It’s been a really rough couple of days for all of us. The good signs are that since she’s been on the formula, the diarrhea has stopped, and she put on 5 ounces in the three days we were there. We will surely have more doctor appointments as we try to figure out exactly what’s wrong and how to help her keep growing the way she needs to. I will be trying breastfeeding again this weekend to see if her symptoms return (as they probably will), but please keep your fingers crossed for some kind of miracle there.
Thankfully, she slept a lot of the time we were in the hospital, so she had some peace. When she’s awake, she’s pretty miserable, just wanting what she can’t have.
And she somehow still finds things to smile about in her sleep.
Jonah is obviously going to be a cook just like his dad, when he was working his way through college.
