4th of July and Carrots

Today we headed to a park in town where they were having an art festival with some music and food. It was a beautiful day to be outside. Here’s Nora, rocking the patriotic clothing for the family. :)

Jonah got to have a bunch of kettle corn… mmmm… and a vegan cupcake which was “really REALLY good!”

Hey! A picture with Mom in it!

We also let Nora try some carrots today (fresh from the farmers market!) We’re supposed to wait five days in between foods, but since she barely ate any rice at all yesterday, we decided that didn’t count and moved on to try a veggie. I’d rather not torture her for the next four days and have her decide that eating is awful. She started out eager…

…and even though she made some pretty amazing faces, she didn’t seem to mind the taste. It just took her a while to figure out what to do with something on her tongue. She actually went on to eat a tablespoon or so.

Jonah pulled up his chair because he wanted to watch Nora with food all over her face.

She did manage several smiles, too. More carrots tomorrow!

That face reminded me of a picture from when Jonah tried squash.

Nora Meets Rice Cereal

The doctor advised us to start Nora on rice cereal first, even though it is totally disgusting. I remember it took Jonah months before he wanted to eat any kind of cereal, and even then he only liked it with fruit mixed in. But we gave it a try with Nora anyway. She was quite pleased to be sitting up in the high chair. Poor little girl… she had no idea what was about to happen.

After batting the spoon away a few times, a tiny bit made it past her lips.

Her initial reaction:

It didn’t get any better from there.

She definitely did not even swallow a total of a spoonful, and was pretty well horrified by the attempts, so I let her see if she just wanted to play with the cereal. At first she was curious.

But then she was just as disgusted as she was when it was near her mouth.

Poor Nora. What a rough meal.

New Teeth!

On Monday, Nora’s first tooth popped through – one of the front bottom ones. (The one right next to it came through today.) She’s been drooling like crazy for a week or so, so this was not unexpected. It’s also almost the exact age that Jonah got his first tooth. Now that these teeth are coming through, she is constantly sticking out her tongue to chew on it.

This is Nora’s teething face. :)

And completely unrelated… This morning, Jonah asked Sean to write him a message on the easel before he went to work, but then Jonah decided that he wanted to write the ‘love, Dad’ part himself.

Springtime Sitting

So, she’s not actually sitting by herself for more than a few seconds, and mostly it’s the cloth diaper that keeps her from folding completely in half, but it won’t be long. :)

Mirrors and Bubbles

Nora was newly excited about two things today…

Mirrors!

…and bubbles! (You can’t actually see bubbles in any of the pictures, but they were there and she was loving them!)

And while Nora was playing with her reflection in the mirror, Jonah emptied her toy basket and climbed in saying, “It is like you are in a little crib!”
