Red Balloon

Nora loooooves to see balloons any time we go in grocery stores. She gets especially excited now that she rides in the cart and can look all over the place to find them, kicking her little legs like crazy. This weekend, I took her with me to Trader Joe’s, and the cashier gave her a red balloon and tied it around her wrist. First she was extremely excited. Then she realized that someone strange was talking to her and she cried. Then she started shaking the balloon and was excited again. When we got home, I tied it to one of her toys to roll around.

Then she started crawling all over me.

She’s a snuggler, even if it’s just my foot.

Feeding Nora

Nora was having some applesauce at dinner, and Jonah said that he wanted to feed Nora. He thought he was just being silly, but I said, “Sure!” He didn’t want to try, but I said I’d help him with the first bite. When he saw how easy and fun it was, he wanted to keep going and was SO proud of himself! Nora was happy, too, but I don’t think she cares too much about who’s on the other end of the spoon at mealtime. ;)

We also went out for some more mini-golfing with Sean’s coworkers, and now that Nora can crawl, she couldn’t just sit on the green and wait for a hole to be done without attacking everyone’s ball position. So she stayed with me in the carrier, and helped me golf. Others were wondering if perhaps she gave an unfair advantage because I actually golfed really well. Regardless, she had a super time and liked leaning back while I was trying to hit the ball (although that sure made it a lot more difficult for me to see what I was doing).

Nora and Family

Awww… Nora and her dad…

img_3294.JPG

Jonah comes over to check her out. It seems like he’s starting to realize that she’s here to stay. Today he wanted to share his chicken “so Nora can dip it in the ketchup.”

Nora tolerated her first two or three minutes of tummy time, lifting her head up to look from side to side.

This next picture shows the piece of fabric that is about to revolutionize my life. It is called a Moby Wrap and was lent to me by a new friend here. It is basically a really long rectangle that gets wrapped around my stomach and shoulders. Nora loooooves to be carried around, snuggling up to my chest, and this lets her do that while I can have both my arms free. I’ve been able to make and eat snacks, do laundry, paint with Jonah, and walk around the indoor farmer’s market all while she happily hangs out and sleeps. It is super comfortable to wear, and I am already wondering what I would do without it.

Welcome, Nora Josephine Sharp!

Today Sara and I welcomed a new family member: Nora Josephine Sharp. She was born this morning, December 3, 2009 at 4:35 am, PST. We will be updating this site with photos of Nora as time permits. Sara and Nora will come home Saturday, at which point Jonah will be able to meet his new little sister. Thank you all for your kind emails and words of support. We appreciate it more than you know. Now, onto a few photos:

Lots of Ducks

Today we went to check out a local fund raiser which involved dumping approximately 65,000 plastic ducks into the Willamette River for a duck race. It was at a park we hadn’t been to yet, so first we walked around and checked out some real ducks.

Jonah really enjoyed practicing his ‘big steps’ over the gaps.

Then we saw a fuzzy duck. This was right after Jonah decided to give him a kiss.

We headed to the footbridge to wait for the ducks.

And we saw lots and lots of ducks. This is not even close to how many there were.
