Another Visiting Uncle!

This time it was Uncle David! He was in Portland visiting his friend, Erica, and they both came down for a visit on Sunday. It was David’s first time meeting his little niece, and although he likes to pretend he’s moderately terrified of babies, he held her and it was OK. :)

Jonah explained the parts of a ballfield to his uncle and pointed out the things that were missing.

At the park, David pushed Jonah on the swings.

And played with Nora in the sand.

Uncle Larry

Uncle Larry flew down to visit us for the Labor Day weekend, and the kids had a great time playing with him!

They read books together.

Nora was shy and nervous at first, but warmed up soon enough when they started crawling around together.

Sitting and playing cars with Uncle Larry

And the boys played a LOT of baseball together!

The kids will surely be happy to see him again at Thanksgiving!

Sunny Monday

Before we headed back home, we took advantage of the beautiful day to go for a little walk on a trail along the coast.

Poor Nora could barely stay awake, since she’s used to napping with recorded ocean sounds.

And Jonah stopped to rest on a bench, after making the observation that “‘bench’ and ‘beach’ have a lot of the same letters in them.”

img_5736.JPG

Then Nora got to sit and pose for some cute pictures of her first trip to the ocean.

It seemed like a nice idea to have both kids in a picture together, but Jonah is still not a big fan of being within arms’ reach. :) At least we get some funny shots out of it.

On our way home, we stopped at the Sea Lion Caves, which is apparently the largest sea lion rookery on the coast. There were over 600 sea lions while we were visiting, and it was pretty amazing to see and hear them all.

As usual, Jonah becomes more interested in any nearby reading material.

With the ocean just a little over an hour away, we are newly inspired to make some more day trips to the beach this summer!

Grandparents Go West

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit us for a little over a week, and this was the first chance Grandpa has had to meet his new little granddaughter.

It had been almost a year since he last saw Jonah, too. They enjoyed throwing a baseball around together.

Jonah got lots and lots of reading time with both grandparents. He even read some books to them!

And Grandma never needed to be asked twice to hold Nora. :)

The Monkle

We’ve been lucky enough to have Monkle Ricky staying with us for the last week now that he’s back from the Peace Corps. It’s been great to see all his pictures and hear stories and have him get to know his nephew and niece! There were times when Jonah wasn’t quite sure what to make of his monkle’s silliness, but he eventually realized there was nothing to be concerned about and did his share of laughing.

They played some ball at the park…

…and took turns on the tire swing!

They played some music, too. Jonah was mostly shy about singing his usual songs, but let his uncle hear a little bit of singing. He also enjoyed studying his uncle’s playing techniques, strumming with a pick, and trying a different guitar.

Nora also paid attention to the new tall guy walking around the house and gave him quite a few smiles. She helped wake him up one morning.

And he tried to help her calm down while I quickly got Jonah in bed for his nap. It kind of worked. :)
