“Bells on bobtail ring…”

For the past couple of weeks, Jonah has been listening to and singing ‘Jingle Bells’ countless times each day. One of his favorite versions has been Barry Manilow’s rendition (thanks, Sean) which he calls ‘crazy Jingle Bells.’ He even amused all the nurses in the hospital with his endless singing while we were there with Nora. Our little music man. :)

Nora’s First Concert

Here it is – Jonah singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ to his little sister.

My favorite part is ‘The babies on the bus…’ near the end. :)

Around the House

It’s been hard to get much sustained computer time (go figure!), so here are a bunch of pictures from the last week or so.

Jonah was finally brave enough to try holding his little sister. I think he was inspired by multiple readings of his ‘I’m A Big Brother’ book. It lasted a little less than a minute before he said, “And now you are all done.”

Some cute shots of little Nora, just hanging out and looking around.

Nora’s musical training has begun.

She had her first Jonah concert the other night. There’s some pretty great video of this – he was singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus.’ We’ll see if I ever have time to get that up and posted…

And Jonah loved vacuuming up dirt and tree needles off of the floor. What a help!

Today we did some ornament painting while Nora snoozed in the wrap. Jonah did a great job painting in the parts of the snowman. He can be so careful about where he paints! (You can see the other one in front of him with the green hat and orange nose.)

And he can also be silly about where he paints. While I was on the phone, this is what I walked back to…

It’s Uncle David!

Last weekend, Uncle David and Erica drove down from Portland to visit us for the day. We took them out to see some of our town and spent time playing at home, too.

As usual, Jonah played songs for his visitors. Uncle David is a fan.

Erica drew some vehicles for Jonah to finish. He just loves adding wheels and drivers to things.

He also shared his ‘hammering work’ with them. This is another great Internet idea – hammering golf tees into a chunk of styrofoam. He kept coming back to this all day.

Thanks for the visit!!

Soundcheck

Peter Mulvey, one of Sean’s (and therefore, Jonah’s) favorite musicians was in town tonight, and we knew that Jonah would love to go see him. He talks about “playing like Peter” all the time and makes daily requests to watch videos of him playing specific songs on youtube. Jonah studies these videos very carefully, and then tries to mimic how Peter plays, moves, and taps his feet.

Unfortunately, the venue didn’t allow minors (even 2-year-olds) after 8:30, so we went a little earlier just to see the soundcheck. When we got there, there was an Irish music jam going on with about ten people playing all sorts of instruments – fiddles, harp, accordion, guitars, drums – and Jonah watched them intently for over an hour! He is just so totally fascinated by music. One of the guys even gave Jonah a little shaker to play along for a while. Then Peter started setting up and joined in.

We got to talk to Peter a little bit about how Jonah enjoys his songs, and he happily played part of Jonah’s favorite one after everything was ready.

Also, Jonah asked me to draw him a ukulele earlier today, so I just made the outline, and now he loves to finish them by adding the sound hole, tuners, and strings.
