With all the time we’ve been spending indoors lately, between sickness and the heavy rain, the kids have done a lot of projects with their art supplies. Jonah’s been doing a lot of cutting and gluing things, like this mini-Jonah.

Many of his projects are also inspired by his favorite musician, Caspar Babypants. One day, he wanted to remake all of Caspar’s album covers to hang on the wall of his bedroom.

And he also wrote out all the lyrics to his favorite song, Googly Eyes, and turned it into a book so Dad would know all the words. Here’s one page (there are 10 more like it).

He’s also been playing concerts with lots of Caspar Babypants songs, and told me that he needed a cardboard guitar case like Dad’s to take his guitar to his concerts. So one afternoon, we made one.

The video that goes along with the song is also one of the kids’ favorites - they watched it about a million times while they were sick, and Jonah likes to copy the drawings on the magna doodle while he sings the song. Nora has been closely watching this for a couple of weeks now and has started drawing her own ‘googly-eye faces’.

Here’s a little video of the happy artist in action.
Paints are frequently requested, too.

A tiny bit, anyway. We had about half an inch last Monday, but it was enough to look exciting for a bit. The kids had been sick all week, but were finally starting to feel like themselves again, so we headed out to play for a short time.
Nora was definitely unsure about the whole thing. Her best comment, “Walk in snow like a Santa. Feel crunchy like banana chips.”

Jonah was more excited.

Especially when Sean suggested building a snowman. It was a little bit of a challenge to scrape together enough for a snowball.

Jonah tells Sean how big to make the snowman. Hahaha. Yeah, Sean. Get to work.

Each kid took a turn holding the giant snowball.

And watched some snowman construction

A few random chunks of chalk and some leaf stems, and the little guy was all set. Awww….

Both kids have been sick for the past few days with a fever and just generally feeling miserable. They both had some time this morning where they were feeling better for a while, and then Nora’s fever started to go back up. When it did, she started shivering and thought that her quivering chin was about the funniest thing ever. She would try to make noise while shivering and just crack up at the way she sounded. (She did the same thing when her croup cough started a few months ago, too - just thought it was so funny.) So this was a little glimmer of fun in our sick and sad little week. And pretty soon after this, she went down for a nap.
Nora’s hair growth and tolerance for rubber bands finally met this past weekend when she sported some awfully cute ponytails for the whole day! She wanted me to take them out for naptime, and they were the first things she asked for when she woke up.

Oh, and after we took down the Christmas tree, I moved my keyboard out to the living room where the kids have enjoyed playing it and singing songs.

And cute as they are, ponytails make Nora seem at least twice as mischievous than before.

As I mentioned earlier, we got Nora a balance bike for her birthday. Although I thought she might be just a bit too small for it now, by spring/summer, it will be a great thing for her to have. In the meantime, Jonah has really done a lot of practicing on it. He started out just walking it slowly up and down the hallway, then got brave enough to start lifting up his feet for a few seconds at a time. After about two weeks, he was too good to be riding it in the house at all, and the weather has warmed enough at times in the past week or so that we’ve spent some nice chunks of time, watching him ride up and down the sidewalk. Since our road slopes very slightly downward, he can get some pretty good coasting going on, and can even ride the bike the length of the whole block without touching his feet to the ground. Also just in the past few days, he’s been practicing turning off into the driveway and trying to circle around without putting his feet down.
While all that has been going on, Nora has been enjoying Jonah’s Christmas gift of a Plasmacar. The idea with this car is that you can power it along just by turning the steering wheel repeatedly left and right, while your feet are resting up on it (you’ll see her do this in the video). Most of the time, she likes to push it along with her legs, and she is getting very good at the whole steering thing, even when backing up.

And the video…
